The Asus VivoBook 15 has an impressive look, but its reasonable price comes at the cost of its meager battery life and poor sound.

Fast Talk

The Asus VivoBook 15 costs $ 399 which is extremely affordable, and like some of the other low-priced options from Asus, the Asus VivoBook 15 manages to deliver a premium look that fits a laptop at twice the price.

The overall size and weight of the VivoBook 15 make it an excellent laptop with a 15.6-inch screen.

But the screen is dim and dull and battery life is short even for a laptop in this price range, but overall it performs well for simple work on the web, but anything else would be painfully slow on an Intel Core i3-1005G1 processor.

The Asus VivoBook 15 has some great design touches, and if you need a laptop at this price point, there are definitely worse options.

The VivoBook 15 comes at $ 399 and comes with an Intel Core i3-1005G1 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of RAM, and Intel UHD graphics.

Design: Sleek , with A Lot of ports

Asus has done a strong job in terms of designing the VivoBook 15, removing the plastic body due to the texture and the plain black plastic bottom, and the dark gray textured finish with metallic silver shine of the Asus logo centered on the lid lends an impressive contrast.

Lifting the dark gray cover reveals the ErgoLift hinge, which tilts the keyboard surface slightly up for a superior typing experience.

Asus VivoBook 15 design

The interior of the laptop has the same finish as the lid, and this includes a color-matched trackpad with an integrated fingerprint sensor.

The area around the keyboard also has a subtle texture change with small indents and is slightly recessed.

The Asus VivoBook 15 weighs 3.7 pounds, 14.1 x 9.2 x 0.8 inches, and it won’t challenge luxury laptops that are thin and light, but it compares favorably to other 15-inch laptops in this price range.

In terms of ports, the Asus VivoBook 15 has an abundance of ports, where you will find a solid set of options.

On the left side of the Asus VivoBook 15 is somewhat sprinkled with two traditional USB Type-A ports, both of which are USB 2.0.

The right side of the Asus VivoBook 15 comes with a power socket, another USB Type-A port (USB 3.1), an HDMI 2.0 port, a USB Type-C port, a headphone jack, plus a microSD card slot, and this is an excellent preparation.

Display: Not the best thing

The Asus VivoBook 15 has a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 screen that produces sharp images, but I discovered during my tests that the colors were dull and the panel in general was completely faded.

Watching the trailer for a live-action reproduction of Mulan, the VivoBook 15 couldn’t reproduce the vibrant reds of the character’s outfit, leaving some of the rich and varied environments feeling cool.

Asus VivoBook 15 (2020) display

We also found that the screen also suffers from a somewhat sweet spot when it comes to viewing mode.

And that colorimeter support with the VivoBook 15 screen, we found that it displays only 65% of the sRGB color gamut, and this actually comes slightly ahead of the Acer Aspire 5 (63%) and behind the HP 15 laptop (67%).

We also found that the brightness is a serious weakness in the laptop, as it can only 205 nits in our tests, and this compares poorly to the Acer Aspire 5 (258 nits).

Keyboard and Big Trackpad

Average 80 words per minute on the typing test using the VivoBook 15, which is slower than my current average of 86 wpm. I was surprised that the 1.4mm main travel was not the most comfortable. Instead, I found the keys

The keyboard on the Asus VivoBook 15 is soft and lacks the strong recoil that helps move your fingers from one key to another, and in the typing test, it averaged 80 words per minute.

But overall the spacing between the keys is excellent for the most part, I just wish there was a little more separation between the standard keyboard and the number pad.

We liked the backlight on the keyboard very much, as it provided an even light on the keys and made for an easy typing experience in low light.

As for the touchpad, it measures 4.1 x 2.9 inches, which is large enough for basic navigation and Windows 10 gestures. The panel had to be responsive and accurate. However, I encountered two things I didn’t like about the touchpad.

Clicking is somewhat cool on either side and causes a bend across the outside of the touchpad. Also, the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor on the touchpad is awkward despite its convenience when logging in quickly.

Battery Life

We were not very impressed with the battery life of the Asus VivoBook 15, as unlike most budget laptops it lasts at least six hours on a single charge of the battery.

However, the VivoBook 15 struggled to reach this mark, as upon the tests it lasted for five hours and 20 minutes only by continuously surfing the web over Wi-Fi, and this is considered superior to the Acer Aspire 5 (6:55) and the HP 15 Laptop ( 4:57) on lab tests though.

We used the VivoBook 15 with low brightness and a less aggressive setting in battery saving mode and only noticed slightly better numbers than lab tests, and it used up 45 percent after two hours, that’s nearly 50 percent after three hours of use.

Features: Audio , MyAsus app

The Asus VivoBook 15 has dual bottom-pitched speakers, and they provide clear sound but are unable to turn up the volume and cannot produce any meaningful bass.

The VivoBook 15 couldn’t fill my small living room satisfactorily, but overall the sounds were acceptable, but it lacked some power.

Asus VivoBook 15 has a webcam for frequent use of video conferencing and video chatting apps these days.

But it doesn’t have a good performance, as you can take a selfie with a 720p camera even in bright light and you’ll instantly see an abundance of noise and a complete lack of detail.

The Asus VivoBook 15 has an AudioWizard app that’s trying to squeeze more performance out of your speakers and a handy MyAsus app that provides you with warranty information.

With the MyAsus app, you can adjust your device’s display settings, battery, and other such features, as well as offer deals on some apps, such as Adobe Suite.

It will also walk you through the process of installing the link for the MyAsus app on your smartphone and connecting it to it.

VivoBook 15 comes with a one-year limited warranty.

Simple, basic performance

As for the performance of the Asus VivoBook 15, it has a simple performance that suits basic tasks, as it has a VivoBook’s Intel Core-i3 processor and 8GB of RAM that are fully capable.

During my tests, I was able to sift through dozens of Google Chrome tabs, as well as using Adobe Lightroom, and the situation was fine.

I also rotated the integrated Intel UHD graphics to see if it could run one of my favorite old games, and I downloaded Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the dazzling Asus VivoBook 15 kept between 18 and 25 frames per second while I was walking through low snowy mountains. the quality.

In general, you can use the Asus VivoBook 15 for a lot of tasks, but most budget laptops are where the benchmark numbers for the device show just how little a laptop should start with.

Handbrake video transcoding tests on the VivoBook 15 gave us another chance to beat performance, as the VivoBook 15 was able to convert 4K video to 1080p resolution within 28 minutes, which is faster than an average of 40 minutes for other budget laptops. .

The Asus VivoBook 15 is also distinguished by its ability to distribute heat, and it will feel moderate enough to be used on your legs.

The VivoBook 15’s keyboard measured around 72 degrees Fahrenheit, while the underside measured higher at 91 degrees.

If you need a passive laptop to do some quick work, then the Asus VivoBook 15 is perfect for you.

But it just doesn’t have enough power to run an old game in low-quality settings to help achieve the nostalgia quotient.

Overall, the Asus VivoBook 15 has performance that isn’t particularly impressive, which doesn’t make it a laptop worth the upgrade.

The external screen, speaker set, and mouse might help you a little with some quirks, but despite that, consider at least spending a few hundred more on the Core-i5 version of the VivoBook 15 to get more power.
