The Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT keyboard has the same performance as the company’s high-end gaming keyboards, but it comes at a much more affordable price.

Fast Talk

The Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT keyboard is the latest in a long line of diaphragm gaming keyboards from major manufacturers. It integrates mechanical keys and gaming peripherals together beautifully, but comes at a slightly higher price.

But overall, the K55 RGB Pro XT keyboard has a very attractive design, as it features RGB lighting for each key and programmable macro buttons, in addition to the availability of separate media controls like its more expensive mechanical sibling.

The K55 Pro XT is one of the best gaming keyboards for newcomers to the PC gaming space, but it has some wasted space in its design, and it costs more than similar keyboards from other manufacturers.

FOR

  • RGB lighting is bold and vibrant
  • Ample lighting and customization options
  • Comfortable writing experience
  • reasonable prices
  • Attractive design

AGAINST

  • The rubber cable is cumbersome
  • Plastic construction flexes easily

K55 RGB Pro XT Design: Full size gaming keyboard

In terms of design, the Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT keyboard is 19.0 x 6.6 x 1.4 inches, which is pretty big, even by full-size gaming keyboard standards.

The reason for this length is the extra macro keys, but other keyboards with similar features, such as the Logitech G915, are half an inch shorter.

Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT Gaming Keyboard design

The Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT has a lot of extra space, be it the large, glossy, fingerprint-prone strip on top, along with the wide bezels on either side of the black plastic case.

But we can’t say it is a sleek design, as there is a metal machine gun design, no tastefully covered keycaps, and no volume metal dial. Everything looks simple in black.

There is a detachable wrist rest, which is very comfortable thanks to the rough, bumpy feel.

As for the additional keys, the Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT has on the left side a column of six programmable macro keys that are easy to program, thanks to the dedicated macro recording button on the top of the keyboard.

There is also a brightness button and a “win lock” button, and the win button disables Windows keys and other key combinations that could accidentally remove you from the game.

Also in the upper-right corner is a set of dedicated media keys. This keyboard gives you pause, rewind, play / pause and fast forward buttons, in addition to volume up, volume down and mute.

Keys: Accurate and responsive

The Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT keyboard has ergonomic keys to a large extent, it is destined to be divisive, and mechanical keyboards in general are known to be more comfortable, better for gaming and able to last longer.

it is actually very good for typists, with accurate and responsive keycaps. In Typing.com’s test, it scored 124 words per minute with 99% accuracy on the K55 RGB Pro XT which is pretty impressive.

However, this doesn’t accurately capture the typing feeling on the K55 RGB Pro XT, which feels unpleasant and is a bit cumbersome at times.

Where sometimes the keys do not respond to very light touches and feel a little stiff, either when pressed or allowed to appear again.

But overall the it is no worse than its competitors, but it still isn’t the fringe I want on my desk for the next three years.

Features: Corsair’s iCue app

The Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT keyboard has Corsair’s iCue app as well as software features that can be handled without the app.

The Pro XT is a welcome change from some of the other Razer keyboards I’ve reviewed, as you can easily manipulate a large number of keyboard special features with key commands.

Available for Windows 10 or macOS, Corsair’s iCue app also allows you to set all the different lighting options down to each key level on the K55 RGB Pro XT, and synchronize lighting across the entire system.

The app has 10 distinct lighting effects (spiral rainbow, rain, rainbow wave, mask, etc.) that can be mixed and matched, in addition to that, you can even make small adjustments to the rotation direction and speed from the keyboard.

As for macros, it’s a similar story, just press and hold the dedicated macro button on top of the keyboard and the next keystroke will start in the macro sequence.

If you use the keyboard for streaming, you may also want to use it with Elgato Stream Deck software that provides you with some additional macro settings functionality.

All in all, the app is pretty intuitive if you’re just looking to set some basic color options and a handful of simple macros.

Performance: Fast response

In terms of performance, the keyboard is one of the fastest typing degrees it has achieved recently, although it doesn’t quite offer the same feel as some mechanical keyboards like the Razer BlackWidow V3.

But my 10fastfingers.com scores came in at 92 wpm, which is well above the 86 wpm average and it wasn’t at the expense of accuracy.

The Corsair K55 RGB Pro XT is a gaming keyboard after all, and we tested and played Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a game that rewards fast keyboard performance, and this keyboard is great with that kind of title in mind. With a selective and anti-ghosting switch on the panel.

It has impressive speed and response. Moving to the diaphragm design makes the operating point less decisive, but overall, the K55 RGB Pro XT has a very good performance.

This diaphragm design demands extreme precision, but for casual gamers, it is a massive step up from a laptop or non-gaming keyboard.

Conclusion

Overall, the Pro XT gaming keyboard serves as a very powerful and affordable entry point to gaming keyboards.

It has strong mechanical switches but depending on your use case, it may not be useful.

We also very much liked the noise-reducing effects of the diaphragm on the K55 RGB Pro XT.

All in all for casual gamers who also like the idea of this command center for their affordable PCs, the K55 Pro XT is an excellent choice.
