The KEF Mu3 is KEF’s first wireless noise canceling headphones, and the stand comes with many great features, such as impressive battery life and detailed sound.

Fast Talk

KEF has entered the headphones market since 2013, experimenting with over-ear and in-ear models over the years, and now it has produced Mu3 headphones, which are the first ever wireless noise-canceling headphones from KEF.

It’s also located somewhere between Sony’s WF-1000XM3 and Bose QuietComfort Earbuds.

And while the KEF Mu3 looks absolutely amazing, it lacks some of the extra features you’ll now find in other earbuds, but if you share KEF’s commitment to sound quality above all else, Mu3 is on your street.

  • Nice design
  • Comfortable fit
  • Great sound
  • Very good battery life
  • IPX5 water resistance

  • There is no wireless charging
  • The Mediterranean African National Congress and Transparency
  • Modest call quality

Design: Elegant Charging Case with With good fit of buds

The KEF Mu3 earbuds have a very impressive design, as both the earbuds and their charging case resemble sculptures, and are mold from highly polish aluminum.

Coming in a very soft design, the charging case looks like a masterpiece and if you leave it on the desk, people probably won’t be able to resist picking it up just to feel it.

KEF Mu3 Earbuds in charging case

And unlike most charging cases on flimsy covers that seem to break, the Mu3 cover feels luxurious compared to the hinge that reminds me of a laptop screen, plus it stays in any position from open to fully closed.

It has an exterior made of aluminum, but despite this you will find the case also somewhat bulky, despite its sensual curves, it is not in the pocket.

The KEF Mu3 also has a very acceptable IPX5 water resistance rating, which should protect it from anything but actual immersion in water.

KEF Mu3 offers four sizes of soft silicone earbuds, meaning it’s easy to get a good seal, but if you feel the need to cram the earbud too deeply into your ears, chances are you are using the wrong size of the earbud.

Pushing it too deep in your ear creates discomfort and also reduces the sound quality and noise cancellation effectiveness.

KEF Mu3 Wireless Earphones

As for the controls in KEF Mu3, it physical buttons, and this is a good thing, as touch controls can be difficult at the best of times, and it is easy to press these buttons, but the strange thing is that the right button had a more clear click response than the left During the tests.

Generally, you can control everything except for skipping the path backward. But there’s no way to customize these gestures, and there aren’t any wear sensors, either.

Features: Active Noise Canceling (ANC) with Amazing Battery Life

The KEF Mu3 earbuds have Active Noise Canceling (ANC), which is a standard feature for high-end true wireless earbuds, but the difference lies in how each model performs.

During testing, we found that the KEF Mu3 achieves a noticeable reduction in low-frequency noise when operating ANC, but it is far from the strong performance of the Apple AirPods Pro and Bose QuietComfort Earbuds.

It also has Transparency mode, which does not let in the voice I want, and the conversations are easier with it turn on, in addition to getting better awareness of the situation.

But without an application, there is no way to call either function, nor is there a way to change the ANC operating procedure.

Where we found during tests that you control a single click of the left earbud to cancel the noise, but it forces you to switch between three modes instead of letting you toggle between ANC and Transparency, which are really the two most used modes.

As for the battery life of the KEF Mu3, it offers great battery life that rivals many strong competitors, as most true wireless earbuds usually take between five to seven hours of battery life per charge.

And here KEF Mu3 offers nine hours – that’s with ANC turn on, and another 15 hours in the charging case, meaning you’ll get a full day of use before you need to plug in the USB-C charging cable.

There is also a five-minute fast charging system that gives you an extra hour of gaming time, but unfortunately there is no wireless charging option.

Performance: Detailed, clean sound

The KEF Mu3 earbuds are fun to listen to, as their bright, clean heights and subtle mid-tones lead to surprises with each new path they occupy.

The KEF Mu3 has no trace of the mud that often gets in the way of the lesser earbuds, and has honorable jazz performances like Summer Dave Brubeck or Duke Ellington’s St.

Louis Blues, not to mention the stage acoustic, which is so tightly controlled that you feel you can measure the distance between the instruments down to an inch.

The KEF Mu3 is an example of commitment to detail, and although I was disappointed with the bass,

I worried that it was trying to achieve a so-called “neutral” EQ, but KEF Mu3 was very conservative with the low end.

All in all, KEF Mu3 is able to selectively spread that bass, which strikes you with a deep resonance only when called upon.

And when it comes to EQ, these shoots are pretty good, but the transparency mode doesn’t let the sound I want in.

As for the quality of the calls, the Mu3 is no exception, as they struggle a bit to keep your voice from being lost in the midst of competing background noise, in addition to that the quality is weak and rough for the sound being captured.

Although the KEF Mu3 lacks some of the features we expected on true wireless earbuds at this price,

they are beautifully crafted, plus they have amazing sound, along with a long battery life.

Generally speaking, KEF offers a two-year warranty, which is better than many competitors, plus it adds their IPX5 rating.

There are more features and other alternatives with comparable sound quality and price than these competitors, for example the Sony WF-1000XM3 which is worth $ 230 on an app-supported audio equalizer, adjustable ANC, transparency, and longer battery life.

There is also a Grado GT220 worth $ 230 which is very similar to the Mu3 and it charges wirelessly, but it does not have ANC mode or transparency.
