Microsoft Surface Earbuds – Generation Microsoft headphones are announced today alongside the new Surface Book 3

The $ 249 Surface Headphones 2 Headset – $ 100 less than the previous version – features active noise cancellation,

you can set the ANC level up or down to your liking by using the disc on the ear piece.

You can get the same 13 noise cancellation levels, and the noise cancellation levels remain the same

With up to 30 decibels for active noise cancellation and up to 40 decibels

for negative noise cancellation like the original Surface headphones,

the key on the other ear piece still handles volume control.

There is very little that has changed about the Surface 2 headphones

other than the new black color option. It still has 40mm “Free Edge” speakers

and outputs what Microsoft calls “universal sound.”

It has been upgraded to Bluetooth 5.0 and now supports Qualcomm’s aptX Bluetooth codecs,

and the earpads have been refreshed to rotate 180 degrees,

which is useful if you are wearing headphones around your neck when taking a break from music.

The battery life extend from 15 hours to 20 hours with noise cancellation enable,

and you can get about an hour of operating time with fast charging

for only five minutes. Microsoft has set the active noise canceling for human voice this time,

and you can set ANC for different sound bands.

Surface Earbuds – Price

Microsoft has given the Surface Earbuds a new price.

They were $ 249, and now they are $ 199. The UK price has been clarified as £ 199.99.

Design and features

During production, the Earbuds were code-named Morrison (apparently after the Doors ’Jim Morrison),

they’ll feature Microsoft’s masonic sound, 24-hour battery life, and touch controls.

The design is on the interesting side. When inserted into the ear, the Earbuds look like massive cylinders.

This is meant to act as a form of noise isolation and stability,

keeping sounds away and providing a better seal for audio. It looks quite ungainly, nevertheless.

The Surface Earbuds built with productivity in mind, so there’s support for Cortana, Office 365 integration

and inside each earbud are two microphones for better call quality.

With Office 365 integration, users can dictate words to Office documents

catch up with emails without having to take them out from the pocket (iOS only).

There’s a translation feature, which sounds as if they are capable of translating languages on the fly.

There’s support for SBC and aptX Bluetooth, and battery life will be up to 24 hours in total, with eight hours in the earbuds

(which works out to the case providing two extra charges). 10 minutes of charge will offer an extra hour of battery life.

Touch and swipe gestures feature. For Android Nougat devices and above,

the Earbuds support fast pair functionality.

Spotify can access directly with a triple tap on each earbud.

Microsoft Surface Earbuds battery life

The Microsoft Surface Earbuds promise 8 hours of battery on a single charge,

and about 24 hours with the charging case.

That’s a higher rating than the Apple AirPods 2019 (5 hours on a charge, 24 with case),

but not quite as colossal as the 11 hours of single charge you’ll get from the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus.

We look forward to seeing how the Surface Earbuds’ battery life holds up in real-world use in our full review.

And as we suspected, the Surface Earbuds are grey.

We do wish that Microsoft would add a splash of color as grey is quite boring.

The Surface Earbuds promise immersive audio via what Microsoft calls “Surface Omnisonic” sound,

and are built to pair instantly with Surface PC devices.

And since this is a Microsoft product, the Surface Earbuds can work with Microsoft 365 apps

like PowerPoint and Outlook to let you do things like swipe through slideshows

or listen to mail messages without having to touch your phone or PC.
