RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio

good stuff

  • The fastest graphics card we tested
  • RGB lighting
  • There is no 12-pin power connector
  • Attractive design

    AGAINST

  • RGB lighting
  • It is still very expensive
  • It will be difficult to fit in some cases

The MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio brings us stronger performance and greater overclocking potential, and this does not negate it’s an expensive GPU.

Fast Talk (RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio)

The MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio is very similar to the RTX 3080, but is much stronger in terms of performance by raising the boost clock and raising the power limit slightly.

But the MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio’s additional performance comes at a cost.

    This card is retailing for approximately $ 1,589 £ 1,799, AU $ 2,969.

But you’re basically paying about 6% more for a card that’s about 4-5% faster, but it would make a lot of sense to get that card on the Founders version – and the fact that it uses regular cables is a bonus.

We feel that the 3090 Gaming X is the perfect version of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090, as it has stronger performance, with room for overclocking.

RGB lighting is also very important in any computer, so we can say that the MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio is the best version of the GPU that we have tested so far.

RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio: Design and Features

MSI opted for the exact same cooler design like we’ve seen on the 3080, but it’s slightly longer with a length of 33.5 centimeters.

It’s 14 centimeters wide and 5.6 centimeters thick, which makes it one of the largest cards on the market.

RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio Design

it’s not going to be great for most itx cases, but it will fit those nice large atx cases perfectly.

The overall design is pretty balanced as well, it’s neutral enough, so it will combine nicely with most motherboards and other hardware out there, but it has enough going on to also make it interesting and pretty impressive.

it has a big shroud, it has a big heatsink, a nice proper metal backplate and there is plenty of RGB too if you’re into that.

rtx 3090 gaming x trio ports

in terms of extra features though MSI isn’t doing all that much to be honest, there’s a fan stop feature when the car has little to do, but there’s not much more going on on the card itself, there’s no dual bios, no extra headers, no extra HDMI 2.1 ports like Asus and gigabyte cards have.

but i really don’t expect most gamers to really care about the majority of these things anyways, you still get three display ports and a single HDMI 2.1 which should be enough for most people.

but if you do need HDMI ports, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio: Stronger Performance

since MSI isn’t giving me many features to actually look at, most of its value will have to come from how the card actually performs, so from a speed perspective.

there isn’t much of a difference between the MSI and the gigabyte rtx 390 i have here, the core boost speeds aren’t that far off and in most benchmarks these cards perform very similarly.

MSI ends up with a less than one percent performance gain over the gigabyte card which could easily be down to being very lucky with a particular sample.

so in raw performance consider these two cards to be completely equal. When it comes to thermals MSI has a larger cooler does show a really good result , especially if you’re looking for a really quiet card.

And when we tested the RTX 3090 Founders Edition wiped out power, peaking at around 373W, but that doesn’t mean you’ll generally feel the need to overclock the MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio right away.

We also noted that the MSI add-on is about 4-10% faster than the Founders Edition in our testing, with the extreme case in Far Cry 5, with MSI being 10% faster.

With MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio, you’ll be able to work your way through all the pretty lights to a playable frame rate, but don’t hope to run next-gen heavyweight games at 8K 60fps.

The test assured us that AAA games for PC will introduce more and more effects into the game, but you should be aware that you will need a card of this caliber to play all the eye candy in 4K.

    Conclusion

The MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio is one of the best options out there, if you are in the market wanting to get the RTX 3090.

This card is so great for next generation 4K games with ray tracing, as the first few “Next Generation” games proved that you would need a powerful graphics card to run all the beautiful graphics settings at a steady frame rate.

Another great feature is that the MSI RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio has a beautiful RGB lighting strip along the side.

But you should note that the MSI RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio is a very bulky graphics card, and it can cause problems for people who have smaller bags in their assembly.
