The OnePlus 9 comes with some upgrades in OnePlus‘ software thanks to the partnership with Hasselblad. The cameras produce great image quality, both normal and ultra-wide, along with high specifications and very fast charging.

Fast Talk

OnePlus 9 is the latest version of OnePlus – a very well-known brand, and although it changed its strategy in making its own phone to compete directly with other premium phones, it has so far remained short in one category: cameras.

But OnePlus has tried to solve this problem, by partnering with legendary photography company Hasselblad in a three-year plan to improve its smartphone photography capabilities.

The OnePlus 9 is the first attempt to correct some aspects that we did not like in the past, and improvements are already noticeable, with better color accuracy and improved low-light performance, in addition to improving digital zoom, while there are some fun new tricks such as the macro simulation effect of Close distance.

There are some aspects that have not changed, for example the design is almost the same, from the position of the buttons to the screen to the size, and the screen has not changed either, it is a sharp 6.55-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD Plus resolution.

The OnePlus 9 comes with the new Snapdragon 888 chipset, and 8GB / 128GB or 12GB / 256GB RAM storage options.

It has a 4,500 mAh battery, along with a fast charging feature – from empty to 100% in about half an hour using the Warp Charge 65T.

Overall, the OnePlus 9 offers you great performance and battery life for its price, while boosting its camera offerings. It is the latest affordable flagship phone that makes a strong case for being the best phone in its price category.

Elegant Design

The OnePlus 9 comes with a design very similar to its predecessor, the OnePlus 8T, as it has the same 6.55-inch glass-fronted screen with glass back as its predecessor, in addition to the same lock button and the distinctive OnePlus ring / vibration / silent switch on the right side and the volume control button On the left, they’re all extremely easy to use, as you arrive when you accidentally hold the phone.

There is also the same USB-C port located at the bottom with the speaker on the right, as well as a second speaker outside of the earpiece.

The only difference the OnePlus 9 has is its frame is plastic, not metal, and it has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance – if you got it from a carrier like T-Mobile, that means; Otherwise, it is not explicitly classified.

OnePlus 9 has an AMOLED screen, but it is flat, without the curved edges of the “waterfall” for their distinguished siblings, and the phone comes with a glass back, unlike the plastic back, but the back of the phone does not have the same density and sense of elegance as the glass covers of the other major brands.

AMOLED Display: Clear and Bright

OnePlus 9 has a 6.55-inch AMOLED screen, with a Full HD Plus resolution (2400 x 1080), and it produces very clear and vibrant images, as it is very similar to the screen of its predecessor.

The screen is only divided by a hole in the upper left corner of the front camera, and there is a fingerprint sensor in the screen, and during the tests we found that it reliably reads our fingerprint only when our finger was in an upright position in relation to the phone.

The screen has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which practically means a smoother visual experience when browsing applications or scrolling, and you can take advantage of games that support up to 120 frames per second.

OnePlus 9 has a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) element, which is a back panel of the screen that enables the phone to dynamically adjust the refresh rate based on what you do, and this is a feature first seen in Samsung phones.

And Hypertouch helps reduce latency of touch controls by 25-30ms, which improves performance in competitive online games.

Cameras: Notable improvements thanks to the partnership with Hasselblad

As for the camera, the OnePlus 9 has a triple rear camera setup, but you will be using two of them.

The main camera is 48 megapixels and the ultra-wide camera of 50 megapixels, in addition to the monochrome sensor of 2 megapixels in low-light photography and black and white photos.

Thanks to OnePlus’ three-year partnership with popular camera brand Hasselblad, this is a major contribution to color calibration. As with most adjustments, the images show more vibrant and realistic colors.

48 MP Main Camera

The OnePlus 9 takes better photos than its predecessors. In side-by-side comparisons, not only is the color gamut more realistic, but the camera captures more detail in the textures.

The improved colors are clearly seen in the images captured by both rear cameras, the main camera is 48MP and the ultra wide is 50MP.

The latter camera also has a special macro mode that captures better close-up photos with ease than those captured on other phones with dedicated macro lenses.

Another photo mode is tilt-shift, which allows you to keep the center bar of the subject scene in focus and blur the rest.

As for the front camera, it comes with a 16-megapixel resolution that takes great pictures, with good colors and sharp details, and we found the selfies to be very amazing.

Thanks to Hasselblad – the phone’s Professional Mode has been customized and a shutter sound has been added that mimics the sound of the “proper” camera.

And Pro mode contains more controls, such as manually adjusting ISO for white balance, shutter speed, focus, and more.

The video capture comes at 8K 30 frames per second, providing 16x the 1080p standard pixel count.

Battery Life and Charging

The OnePlus 9 comes with a 4,500mAh battery, which is extremely bulky and will last with you throughout the day, although there are other flagship phones with larger batteries.

And you can get a 65T charge warp charger in the box, which OnePlus CEO Pete Lau claims will charge the phone to 100% in less than half an hour.

During the tests, we found a lot on the same results for wired charging, as the speeds were precipitously fast recharging in part due to the built-in battery, as we noticed that the 4,500mAh unit is actually split into two cells of roughly 2,250mAh.

The OnePlus 8T recharges from zero to 100% in less than 40 minutes with its 65 warp charge charger, and the OnePlus 9 needs approximately 10 minutes from that time with improvements to the power block.

Smooth and enhanced performance

The OnePlus 9 has specifications like the OnePlus 9 Pro, along with the updated chipset, it has the same RAM and storage options.

It is characterized by fast and smooth performance, it can run games and applications without hindrance.

The OnePlus 9 features Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

And in benchmarking testing, it definitely holds its own with the Geekbench 5 multi-core average score of 3654 – meaning it outperforms every other Android phone on the market.

Unfortunately, the OnePlus 9 doesn’t have expandable storage, meaning you’ll only have to live with either 128GB or 256GB.

The OnePlus 9 runs Android 11 runs as well as the OnePlus’ UI, offering the usual blend of a clean interface and helpful menu features.

Conclusion

The OnePlus 9 has the highest specifications that can be found in a phone at an affordable price. The phone has the best Android specifications that can be obtained in its price range at the moment, and it is a great value phone.

It also features a very impressive camera that provides you with an amazing photography experience with vivid colors.

It also comes with a medium battery, along with a fast charging feature, as it fills up again in less than 30 minutes via cable, and within 45 minutes using wireless charging.

Unfortunately, OnePlus 9 does not have storage expansion, as 128GB or 256GB internal memory is the limit.
