The Sennheiser PXC 550 provides great, clear sound, plus satisfying battery life, but some of its other features leave little to be desired.

Fast Talk (Sennheiser PXC 550)

It’s hard to get wireless headphones with every component properly, as the wireless connection can be short range or buggy, and there are battery limitations

And simple design and other stuff.

In addition, the noise cancellation provided by different models of headphones can vary greatly, as there are wireless headphones that barely exceed the passive insulation provided by simply having a pair of well-padded boxes covering your ears.

We now have the Sennheiser PXC 550s that do a great job of balancing this variety of requirements, providing you with great battery life as well as connectivity options like the enhanced Bluetooth aptX technology.

  • Great sound
  • On / off control well implemented
  • AptX connection.

  • Touch controls are unresponsive
  • No battery notification
  • Noise cancellation could be better

Sennheiser PXC 550: Design and Comfort

The Sennheiser PXC 550 headphones come very conservative in appearance, as they have a matte plastic ear cup, with a simple oval metal band on each housing the microphones that the headphones use for noise cancellation.

The controls are located at the bottom of the right earbud, where a single button handles both switching between the headphone’s four equalizer modes, in addition to bluetooth pairing duties, and the slider enables you to choose between two different types of noise cancellation, or turn off noise cancellation altogether. This is pretty cool.

The micro USB charging port and 2.5 mm headphone jack are located at the bottom of the right earbud if you want to use the headphones in a wired configuration.

We were surprised that there were no buttons on the headphones

to control the volume and track skip, but the reason for this is because Sennheiser has chosen to include touch controls on the right earbud.

You can only swipe up or down to increase or decrease the volume respectively, and you can swipe left or right to skip forward or backward.

One of the great features here is the use of rotating the earpiece cover to turn on and off the headphones, as users rotate the earcups so that the headphones remain flat, and this procedure turns off the headphones.

But I seldom leave the feature on so you don’t waste your battery when not in use.

In terms of battery life, you can get 30 hours of use from these headphones without needing to be recharge, but the unfortunate thing is the lack of an acoustic battery indicator K that is present in the Bose QuietComfort 35s.

Sennheiser PXC 550 Performance: Clear and Powerful Sound

In terms of audio performance, the Sennheiser PXC 550 headphones, it relies on multi-layered voices, as during the tests we noticed that there was a good separation in vocals and instruments, and the sound was fun and spacious.

We drew on the guitar in Dark Necessities and the sound was crystal clear even at the end of the bass spectrum, although most headphones don’t give an undue effect on the bass notes. It is well balanced and pure.

In The 100 we like the headphones for handling complex drums, thanks to the four EQ modes, which increase or limit certain frequencies depending on what you’re listening to.

As for the noise cancellation, it wouldn’t be enough to allow me to hear the words clearly without raising the volume to an uncomfortably high volume.

But I managed to fix the problem by switching to the EQ “speech” mode, where he tried to boost the mid and third frequencies at which the human voice tends to work.

One of the things I didn’t like is the touch control, as it only works if you are looking to use it to pause your music, and adjusting the volume usually requires a reasonable amount of trial and error.

This, unlike the QuietComfort 35s, is practical and, unlike the Sennheiser system, it works 100% of the time.

One of the great things is that you will get good performance either through aptX or standard Bluetooth.

We Liked

The Sennheiser PXC 550 headphones have great features. Their battery life is good, so you won’t have to worry about recharging them, helped by the fact that you can turn them off with just a touch of the ear cups.

It also provides you with great sound, as the Sennheiser PXC 550’s greatest strength is its sound, and it also provides you with a noise cancellation method.

The presence of both “Club” and “Movie” EQ modes has greatly improved the audio playability of the podcast.

We Dislike

But what we didn’t like about the Sennheiser PXC 550 were the touch controls, as we simply didn’t respond adequately to more complex actions, such as skipping multiple tracks, as when we did this during our tests we found some bugs.

The controls only served us pause or quickly resume music, but most of the time I relied on my music player for anything else.

As we said, the Sennheiser PXC 550 had noise cancellation, and it struggled a little more than its competitors in acoustically variable environments.

The ear pads were fine and provide a good amount of passive noise isolation, but the faux leather cover could have made you sweat a little.
