Vivo Y20s

good stuff

  • The fingerprint sensor is useful
  • low price
  • Great battery life

    bad stuff

  • It felt slow at times
  • Micro USB port
  • Two redundant rear cameras

The Vivo Y20s is one of the great phones to look at, as it has great battery life, has an easy-to-reach fingerprint scanner and a sturdy plastic back.

    Fast Talk (Vivo Y20s)

Vivo appeared in the United Kingdom in late 2020, and launched the Vivo Y70 and Vivo X51 5G, and then launched the Vivo Y20s phone, which has many wonderful features, as it is a multi-functional phone that can be relied upon.

The phone can be a little slow and the cameras in it will not impress you, as they are of normal quality, they are suitable for social media posts and for sharing snapshots with your loved ones.

But one of the wonderful features that distinguish the Vivo Y20s is the battery life, as it withstood two days between charges.

The phone also has a great design, the plastic back of the Y20s doesn’t look cheap at all, and the side-mounted fingerprint scanner is really easy to use.

    The Vivo Y20s costs £ 149 / AU $ 297 (roughly $ 200).

There are many competing phones, for example there is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 at 199 pounds, and Moto G9 Play at 159 pounds.

Vivo Y20s: Great Design With Simple Display

The Vivo Y20s has a very elegant design, as it has a plastic body that does not look cheap like many other plastic phones.

It weighs 192.3 grams and measures 164.4 x 76.3 x 8.4mm, so it’s big, but you can easily fit it in your pocket and not be bothered by it.

The volume control button is located on the right edge of the phone, and there is a fingerprint scanner built into the power button, which is really cool as it is easy to access and very quick to use.

One of the things that we did not like is the micro USB port in the phone,

it is a bit old due to the fact that many phones contain the newer USB-C,

and it also made the phone slower in charging. Next to the port is a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The back is characterized by a gradient design that reflects light in rays away from the rear camera protrusion, which gives an attractive appearance.

With regard to the screen, the Vivo Y20s has a 6.51-inch screen

which is considered large for a phone at its price, in addition to the presence of an HD LCD panel (720 x 1600),

and at the top there is a “teardrop” notch containing the front camera.

The screen has a high resolution but it is slightly lower than most budget phones, so you may find the images appear vague.

We like the LCD panel, but found that the color accuracy is not great and the colors are not vibrant.

The Vivo Y20s screen was quite average for its price, so if you aren’t playing a lot of games, you probably won’t mind the screen’s shortcomings.

Vivo Y20s Features: Great Software and Amazing Battery Life

The Vivo Y20s has Android 10, with the Vivo Funtouch 11 user interface,

and this is one of the most customized user interfaces made by phone companies.

Funtouch was similar to Google’s Android “stock”, in that it uses Google’s own applications,

for example photos to display various photos that you took and messages to send text messages,

so in general Funtouch looks very clean to use, plus the interface is clean and easy to use.

    Vivo Y20s battery life

One of the great features of the phone is the battery life, where you will find a 5000 mAh battery in the Vivo Y20s, which is very large for a smartphone.

When testing, the battery easily exceeded one day, and it can last about two days with light use, but of course heavy use leads to draining power a little faster.

With regard to charging, the charging was 18 watt through the micro USB port in the phone, and we did not like that because it is an old standard that does not provide very fast charging.

The phone will take several hours to turn on again from empty to full, and a quick recharge is not recommended from time to time.

    Good Enough Cameras

In terms of the camera in the Vivo Y20s, it has three rear cameras, namely a 13-megapixel main camera, f / 2.2 lens slot,

a 2-megapixel macro camera and f / 2.4 lens slot, in addition to the 2-megapixel depth sensor snapping and f / 2.4 lens slot,

    Vivo Y20s back camera

The front of the phone has an 8-megapixel front camera and f / 1.8 lens slot.

When we tested the additional 2 megapixel sensors did not add much to the phone’s cameras, we couldn’t understand why there are three cameras in the back with no impressive result.

But overall the pictures we took on the phone were good, and the colors in the well-lit shots were more faded.

Images captured in low-light conditions were fairly good, but not unusually so.

The selfies were impressive, as the color accuracy was fair and the shots looked well detailed.

    Vivo Y20s Camera test

The Vivo Y20s has many basic camera modes in addition to the portrait mode, such as panorama, video, and slow motion video.

As for the videos, it was at 1080p, but at only 30 frames per second,

and in general the cameras were fine, but don’t expect to capture professional-level footage.

Overall performance is average but not good when it comes to gaming

In terms of performance, the Vivo Y20s uses the Snapdragon 460 chipset, with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

Due to this low level processor, we noticed that the phone was a bit slow in use.

And we tested the benchmark Geekbench 5, and the result was considered one of the lowest we’ve seen.

    Vivo Y20s for gaming

The slowdown was also noticeable and apparent on the main interface, by scrolling between menus and opening applications, as it was taking a little longer than it is on most other phones.

As for the games, the simple games like Candy Crush and Angry Birds were quite good,

but we found that the advanced games like Call of Duty: Mobile and PUBG Mobile are not quite good due to the lack of processing.

As for the speakerphone on the Vivo Y20s, it was good, but it became distorted

when we raised the volume, but the speaker in general was good for calls and voice messages.

There is a 3.5mm headphone jack for fans of wired audio, but if you are an audiophile, we recommend using wired or wireless headphones.

The Vivo Y20s has many advantages, for example it has a very decent battery life,

as it will last for a day between charging and often twice with light use.

The position of the side mounted fingerprint scanners is also very nice for people who like the fingerprint scanners in different places.

But the Vivo Y20s has a fairly high price, but you can look at the capabilities it has, as it is good for its price.

Also, do not expect a high-quality camera with the Vivo Y20s, so if you like to take pictures almost professionally, you can look for another phone.
